About Dr Caleb Harvie
Experience, Philosophy, and a Commitment to Dentistry That Lasts
Dentistry wasn’t something I had planned from a young age, but it is a profession I have grown deeply grateful to be part of.
I graduated from La Trobe University in Bendigo, Victoria in 2019 with a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Dentistry) and a Masters of Dentistry. At the time, I had the opportunity to pursue either dentistry or medicine. I chose dentistry because I wanted to work directly with people, use my hands, and make a meaningful difference to patients’ health earlier in my career.
I also had a positive experience undergoing orthodontic treatment as a teenager, which left a lasting impression. What I did not fully appreciate at the time was just how complex, demanding, and rewarding dentistry would be. It is a profession that requires technical precision, ongoing learning, and empathy, particularly when caring for people who may feel anxious or have had difficult dental experiences in the past. Helping patients achieve strong clinical outcomes while also improving how they feel about dental care is one of the most satisfying aspects of my work.
Why West Lakes?
West Lakes stood out to me as a community that values quality, independence, and long term relationships. There is a clear place here for non corporate dentistry that prioritises careful planning, transparency, and outcomes designed to last.
My approach to dentistry aligns closely with what many people in West Lakes are looking for: honest advice, thoughtful care, and treatment focused on long term oral health rather than speed or volume. Providence Dental Care was created with that philosophy at its core.
I believe dentistry should be predictable, transparent, and designed to last. Treatment should never feel rushed, and clinical decisions should always be guided by evidence, experience, and what is genuinely in the patient’s best interest.
Education, Registration and Professional Standing
I hold a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Dentistry) and a Masters of Dentistry from La Trobe University and graduated in 2019. I am fully registered with AHPRA as a general dentist and am a member of the Australian Dental Association at both federal and state level.
Early in my career, I worked in public dentistry at Ballarat Health Services, now Grampians Health. This provided valuable exposure to a wide range of patients and complex clinical situations, and helped shape a careful, evidence based approach that continues to underpin my work today.
Clinical Experience and Areas of Focus
I have had signficiant opportunity to explore a wide range of clinical procedures and treatments working across regional Victoria since beginning my dental training in 2013. I confidently perform a wide range of general dental and routine treatments, but also have a particular interest in some specialties.
Implant and Surgical Dentistry
I have over six years’ experience performing surgical extractions and bone grafting, with advanced implant training completed more than two years ago. My work includes single tooth implant cases, management of bone loss, and socket preservation procedures.
All implant cases are carefully planned using CBCT imaging and digital scans to improve accuracy, safety, and long term predictability.
Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry
A significant portion of my clinical work involves restorative dentistry, including crowns, veneers, dentures, and occlusal rehabilitation.
I have completed hundreds of restorative cases, many of which are photographed for quality control, continual improvement, and patient education. My focus is always on function, longevity, and conservative tooth preparation where appropriate.
I have a particular interest in advanced resin bonding techniques and the material science behind them, allowing ceramic restorations to be stronger and more predictable than was previously possible. I have personally designed and fabricated hundreds of ceramic restorations using modern chairside CAD CAM systems, selecting materials carefully based on clinical requirements rather than convenience.
General and Preventive Dentistry
Preventive care forms the foundation of everything I do. My aim is to help patients maintain healthy, comfortable teeth over the long term.
I have a strong interest in managing anxious patients and take particular care when treating neurodivergent patients. Emphasis is placed on communication, pacing, and creating a calm and supportive clinical environment. High quality direct restorations are carried out using meticulous techniques, including rubber dam isolation and premium restorative materials, to maximise comfort and durability.
Orthodontics
I have experience providing orthodontic treatment using both fixed braces and clear aligners in teenagers and adults, with patients ranging from early teens through to later adulthood. Orthodontic planning always considers facial balance, function, and long term stability.
Continuing Education and Advanced Training
Dentistry is a field that evolves rapidly, and ongoing education is essential to providing care that reflects current best practice.
My continuing education includes postgraduate orthodontic training through OrthoEd, advanced implant training through the Brener Implant Institute in Sydney, and surgical training in wisdom tooth extraction. I have also completed accredited training in relative analgesia, nitrous oxide sedation, and the use of botulinum toxin in dentistry.
I consistently complete well in excess of the Dental Board of Australia’s CPD requirements and place strong value on mentorship and peer learning, particularly in the areas of orthodontics, prosthodontics, and implant dentistry.
My Clinical Philosophy
Every patient is different, and treatment should reflect that.
My approach centres on individualised treatment planning, evidence based decision making, and avoiding one size fits all dentistry. I prioritise long term outcomes over short term fixes and work to create a safe, calm, and fear free environment for patients.
Modern technology, contemporary techniques, and high quality materials are used thoughtfully because they improve comfort, accuracy, and predictability of care.
Continuity of Care at Providence Dental Care
Providence Dental Care is a newly established practice located in the Complexica building overlooking the West Lakes football oval, where the Adelaide Crows are often seen training.
The practice was originally built in 2022 and remained largely unused, sitting in pristine condition until 2025, when my wife and I made the decision to purchase it. This has allowed us to create a clinic that reflects current best practice from the ground up, with modern systems, materials, and clinical workflows implemented without compromise.
While the practice itself is new, patients can expect my experience to provide consistency, familiarity, and stability, alongside thoughtful, contemporary dentistry delivered with care and attention to detail.
Community and Long Term Commitment
After training and working in Ballarat from 2018 through to 2025, including time in private practice and as a principal dentist, I relocated to Adelaide to be closer to family.
With close family ties in South Australia, my intention is to build long term relationships with patients and families in the local community. One of the most rewarding aspects of dentistry is caring for people over many years and adapting treatment as their needs change over time.
