The most important thing is to stay calm but act quickly. What you do in the first few minutes can make a real difference in whether we can save the tooth.
For a Knocked-Out Adult Tooth
Pick the tooth up by the crown (the part of the tooth you can normally see). Do not touch the root. If you can, gently place the tooth back into the socket, but do not force it. Keep the tooth moist by placing it in a glass of milk, if possible, or by having your child hold it between their cheek and gum.
Get to a dentist as quickly as you can. The best chance we have of saving the tooth is within 30 minutes of the injury.
For a Knocked-Out Baby Tooth
Do not try to put a baby tooth back in, as this can damage the adult tooth developing underneath. Keep your child calm and contact your dentist for advice on whether a follow-up visit is needed.
In Case of Medical Injury
If your child has taken a knock to the head, jaw or face, seek medical attention first. We can address dental injuries once any other trauma has been ruled out.
Save Our Number in Your Phone
We recommend saving the Providence Dental Care number in your phone before the season starts so you are not searching frantically for a dentist in West Lakes on the sideline.
